Last year we started having discussions with Lewis and Andrew at LWS Design about the last major body panel that they could produce for the Corrado to complete the package. Anyone seriously interested in performance and weight saving will be glad to know that the long awaited Corrado full carbon tailgate is finally available.
The tailgate weighs in at 2.4 Kilograms in its bare form. Your choice of going plexi or glass will have an impact on the final built weight. We are going to weigh a full tailgate shortly and report on the weight saving at a later date.
The quality of Lewis’ carbon infusion is extremely good and looks fantastic. A problem that was encountered during the production of this product was that a bracket would have to be manufactured to hold the lock mechanism as the original item was welded on to the standard tailgate. Lewis’ solution was to create a folded aluminum bracket that replaces the original, again that has been beautifully crafted and looks excellent.
The area that the spoiler retracts into has taken very well to the molding process and looks completely stock. LWS also sell a carbon spoiler to complete the package.
We just want to say a great big thank you to Andrew, who on a Saturday, delivered the tailgate to us in person and of course to Lewis for his hard work through what turned out to be a mammoth task. We strongly recommend LWS Design products to anyone as both Andrew and Lewis are a pleasure to deal with and their products are second to none that we know of! Visit LWS design at www.lwsdesign.co.uk
The post was entitled ‘three is the magic number’ as this is one of three major body panels that LWS produce for the Corrado, the other two being full carbon late style bonnets and sunroof-less roof skins.
Now lets get this fitted to John’s Corrado!
